Unique vase by Belgian artist Charlotte Abeloos.

Measurements: width 10cm x height 20 cm

*the vase is unglazed on the inside. Meaning it is a sculptural piece and does not hold water.

The vase is part of her Iceland collection where she uses lava sand, collected from Reynisfjara black sand beach in Iceland, as a texture.

Each piece of this collection is unique, you will not find a piece within this collection that is exactly the same. Charlotte plays around with different clay bodies, different application techniques for the lava sand and different shapes to make every piece unique.

In this specific piece Charlotte used a highly grogged stoneware with a sand colour and applied the lava sand onto the leather hard piece. Once fired the lava melts into the clay. It has a mat finish that works really well with the groggy sand coloured clay.

Charlotte’s work is a combination of the three things she loves most in life: nature, traveling and clay. In her work she uses raw materials from nature collected during her travels and finds ways to incorporate them into her ceramic objects.

The process of traveling and finding the natural materials, as well as experimenting with the materials, clay bodies and temperatures, is as important to Charlotte as the final result itself.
